When it comes to housework, there are two extremes: Those who own two Roombas and an electric steam mop, and those who only find inspiration to de-clutter after binge-watching an episode of Hoarders. Here’s where those of us dedicated to curated maximalism can grow our collections, in no particular order:

1. The Puzzle Piece: This house-turned nonprofit consignment shop accepts (and sells) everything and anything. It’s owned by veterans who donate proceeds to autism research in honor of their son. Go.

2. The Vintage Barn: From hats, lingerie, coats, costume jewelry and cowboy boots, you’ll definitely leave with something if you don’t get overwhelmed first. Info.

3. A Bit of Couture: Brand-name clothing and trendy furniture lines the floor here; finds on a recent day included a farmhouse table and chairs for $400. More.

4. The Warehouse: Find antiques and repurposed items from West End shop Medleyanna’s, like old carts and giant ironworks. Here.

5. Black Castle Books: Trade in your old Sway book club picks for new finds, or pick up some oldies. Get to it.

6. Helping Orphans Thrift Store: Find used coats and cheap scrubs along with hidden gems from Banana Republic and Ann Taylor. Seek and find.

7. Eclectic on 5: Rugs? Jewelry? Antiques? Accessories? Check, check, check and check. Here you go.

8. Whispering Pines Thrift Shop: Staffed by volunteers, every bit of this shop’s proceeds to to local charities. Go browse.

9. The Coalition: From books for spare change to puzzles, games, a little bit of furniture and a separate shop for clothing, this Southern Pines store has it all, with the mission to give back to its parent organization, The Sandhills Moore Coalition for Human Care. Time to swing by the CoinStar.

10. Emmanuel Episcopal: Started in 1932, this shop calls itself the “best kept secret in Moore County.” Time-savvy shoppers will like that clothing is organized by size and type. Bring your biggest Aldi bag.

11. Pinebluff Peddler: Tiny building in a tiny town, with a huge selection of furniture, dishes and more. Read the reviews. After you stop by, check out Heath’s Riches, a warehouse next door.

12. Barn Door Consignments: Aimed at current or aspiring equestrians, this shop has a little bit of everything for the horse lover — even if the only pony you can afford is a painted motif on a new living room table. Don’t say neigh.

13. Community Thrift Store: This new place opened in the summer of ’21 in the N.C. 5 shopping center that also houses Sandhills Bowling Center. Roll on in.

14. Habitat ReStore: You can find your fair share of used couches here, but we think this Aberdeen shop really shines in its selection of doors, windows, and other odds and ends for your ongoing she-shed project. It’s hammer time.

15. Goodwill Industries: While many Goodwills have large selections of home goods and furniture, this one carries lots of clothing. Good deals are to be had, but it requires searching — clothing is arranged by color, not by size. The hunt is on.

16. Practical Posh: Located in Carthage, this store carries vintage and thrift, and even offers to ship small items directly to you. Outside, you’ll find garden elements like concrete bird baths. No, they won’t ship that. Don’t skip arm day.

17. The Bee’s Knees: Located in Eastwood, this stone-covered shop keeps its antiques neat and organized, and gives back a percentage of every sale. One room is reserved for household goods at nearly yard-sale prices, while others are reserved for showcasing the work of local artists. Buzz over.

18. Design Market: An indoor marketplace featuring a mix of businesses, the 40,000-square-foot Design Market is home to unique new, consignment, antique, vintage and designer furniture and artistic up-cycles. Many are priced for retail sale. Plan accordingly.

19. Resouled Vintage: Shop the Instagram feed, or a permanent pop-up at Create Studio at 105 W. South St., downtown Aberdeen.

20. Daisy Daydream: Shop pop-ups locally and in Durham and Wilmington, or shop online.
