Steep Dreams Are Made of This

The Timeless Teacup, which has been popping up in various markets around Moore County the past three years, now has a place to call its own. Located at 110 N Bennett St., behind Southern Pines Brewing Co., the space will have a full tea service where you can come sit for a cup or pot, take it to go, or participate in “Afternoon Tea.” You’ll notice when you go into the space it doesn’t have an English influence like many tea shops. Owner Tina Bozkurt describes it as a “modern Asian spinoff.”

“Tea originates in Asia, they do their own kind of tea shop. A lot of tea shops do a book theme or ‘Alice in Wonderland’. I wanted to do something different from other tea shops,” she says. “We wanted people to be able to come in and relax,” adds her husband, Boz.

Afternoon Tea will be offered in two seatings, either 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. or 2-4 p.m. Reservations are preferred but walk-ins are available. A website is in the works but in the meantime, you can make reservations by calling (252)-384-8041 or sending a DM through Instagram. Even during Afternoon Tea times, patrons are welcome to come in and grab something else, if they wish. Afternoon Tea includes a pot and a tiered plate with scones, sandwiches and savories and dessert pastries. Many of the items will come from Pastry Mom, Kayla Renee Cakes and Miss Kellie’s Cooking.

If you don’t want the full experience but more than just tea, you can opt for the “cream tea” experience which is scones with lemon curd and tea or the “dessert tea,” which is self-explanatory.

You can expect to find a dozen hot teas always available, in addition to the wholesale blends. A couple of cold tea options will also be made daily. Tea, as Tina says, is a science — one so specific that even the way you boil the water can affect taste.

Those who frequent The Timeless Teacup booth at markets will still see them there occasionally but they’ll have more stocked in the shop. Their best sellers include sleepy tea, herbal blends and detox teas. Tina says they plan to add a customizable blend option to the store as well. You’ll also find other small retail items like art and tea accessories.

“We’re excited to fill a space in the community,” says Tina. It officially opened on Friday, July 11. Hours will be Wednesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
