It Takes a Village, People

There’s been a development on the potential for a YMCA in Southern Pines. To get you up to speed, it’s been established that the community wants a Y and land was acquired to build said facility years ago, thanks to a donation by the town. The funding, however, never got where it needed to be and a lot was still in the air. As for the land, it was set to go back to the town this September if no traction was made on the facility.

Spoiler: no traction was made. But two YMCA officials have circled back with the town on the project, and a community forum is scheduled Tuesday, Oct. 13, 9 a.m. It’s open to the public but the main goal is to hear from local leadership, businesses and partners to see how a YMCA could come in and fill gaps rather than create competition. You’ll know more when we do.
