She’s Got a Blank Space, Baby
And she’ll write your name — in the books for Studio Violet, her new rentable studio space in downtown Aberdeen. Photographer Melissa Ollison, of The Photo Brief, is transforming 103 W. South St. into a customizable spot where artists can work, hold classes and more.
“I wanted to not just have a photo studio for myself but a creative, collaborative space to inspire and to celebrate the arts,” Melissa says. “I looked for a space for a long time and couldn’t find it, and now that I have it I want to open it to other people, too.”
Studio Violet’s neutral palette will make it adaptable to all sorts of projects — as a longtime wedding photographer, Melissa is personally hoping to create elaborate editorial sets with designer gowns. Those who book the space will be able to request special backdrops, lighting and more. There’ll be room for tables and chairs for classes, plus little comforts like bobby pins, hairspray and a mini fridge to keep photography clients happy.
Melissa would also love to hosts gallery shows, and offer her front window as a showcase for local artists. “I want the space to inspire ideas, and give people a private, flexible space to execute them,” she says.
Studio Violet could be open in mid-November. Watch the website for updates.
