The produce selection at the grocery store might be sparse, but local farms and produce stands are just gearing up for another season — while taking proper sanitary precautions. Here’s where you can skip the chaos and buy local.

:: Kalawi Farms and Ben’s Ice Cream: Kalawi Farms in Eagle Springs is open, and you can grab ice cream from inside their air-conditioned counter. If you’re looking for containers to take home, you can order online at https://www.kalawifarm.net/.

:: Karefree Produce: Their stand is stocked with produce — and even toilet paper. 

:: Ken Chappell Peaches and Apples is planning to open its stand in Eagle Springs on Wednesday, June 10, with call-ahead ordering at 910-673-1878 and curbside pickup.

:: Sandhills Farm to Table Cooperative: Sandhills Farm to Table is offering home delivery for goods from local farms. Call 910-722-1623 to learn more or visit their website.

:: Ithíka Acres Creamery: This Raeford farm is offering free, next day delivery to Aberdeen, Southern Pines, and Pinehurst for orders over $16 through their website. You’ll find goat cheese and goat milk products, like soaps and lotions. 

:: Moore County Farmers Markets: The Farmers Market at Armory Park in Southern Pines is open year-round on Thursdays starting at 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. The downtown Southern Pines farmers market will open on Saturday mornings after from 8 a.m. until noon. They’ll also be at First Health Fitness Center on Monday afternoons from 2-5 p.m.

:: Sandhills Farmers Market: The Sandhills Farmers Market is open Wednesdays from 3-6 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 1 a.m. on the Village Green at Tuft’s Memorial Park in Pinehurst.

:: Johnson Family Produce and General Store: Johnson Family Produce is offering delivery and drive-thru pickup for produce items. 

:: Olde Carthage Farm: Olde Carthage Farm is now open for U-Pick strawberries. They’re also offering curbside pickup for pre-picked berries.

:: Highlanders Farm: Highlanders Farm in Carthage is expected to open for the season starting around April 8 or April 9. They’ll offer curbside pickup and walk up services.

:: Paradox Farms: Goat cheese deliveries are being made from the West End farm to Cannon Park in Pinehurst every Friday, and pickups are also available on Fridays. Order here or message them on Facebook.

:: White Hill Farms: Call this Cameron farm at (910) 783-8552, order up produce, and set up a time to pick up curbside delivery.

:: Happy Goat Ranch: Happy Goat Ranch, at 1508 U.S. 15-501 in Carthage, has plenty of produce and baby farm animals for kids to play with. Call 910-315-2058.

:: C.V. Pilson Farm: C.V. Pilson now has strawberries and cases of sweet potatoes. They’re accepting pre-orders and are offering curbside pickup.

:: Sanford Farmers Market: The market opens at 8 a.m. on April 25, at 115 Chatham Street in downtown Sanford. You’ll find goats milk soap from Barefoot Creek Farm, cheese from Paradox Farm, and produce from White Hill Farm.
