Our friends at Triangle Wine helped us come up with the perfect bottle to compliment whatever candy you take from the bucket when the kids aren’t looking (or after they’ve gone to bed). They don’t need all that sugar — you, however, are a lost cause. Embrace it.
Skittles: Malvasia Aromatic. You’ve chased the rainbow, found the pot of gold and know all about this classy af $14 wine. Intense floral aromas will provide the perfect compliment, and keep you coming back for more. Try the Bodegas y Vinedos Verum Malvasia Vino de la Tierra Castilla 2016.
M&Ms: Cabernet. M&Ms, like most chocolate, only enhance classic red wines. This cab’s succulent tannins and smooth flavors will make you feel like, well, someone who isn’t eating leftover Halloween candy on a Wednesday night. Try the Echeverria Limited Edition Cabernet Sauvignon.
Gummy Bears: Pinot Grigio. This fun and light white is perfect for these light and gummy treats. Hell, throw a few in there and see what flavors you get. This is a $15 bottle — you’re not a purist. Try the Villa Loren Pinot Grigio delle Venezie IGT.
Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups: Malbec. Just when you think there’s nothing better than chocolate and peanut butter, we add a dry red, with rich fruit flavors of blackberry, black cherry and plum. Try the Gun Dog Malbec.
Hershey Bars: Pinot Noir. Make a basic bar feel more rich with hints of ripe cherry, blackberry and raspberry you’d only find in the fancy chocolate aisle at Harris Teeter. Try the Montinore Estate Pinot Noir Willamette Valley.
Starbursts: Rose. The pink ones (is pink a flavor?) match the fun, fruity, and light flavors of a Rose that will make you want to not skip the yellows. Try the Latue Tempranillo Rosado La Mancha DO.
Sour Patch Kids: Riesling. The sweetness of this sparkling selection pares down the sour with flavors of mango, papaya, and peaches. It’s a real party in your mouth. You’re welcome. Try the Lujon Wine Cellars Riesling 2015
Twix: Ports. If you were classy, you would sip this in a study while discussing philosophy. But you’re not, so pour this port and take a bite of a Twix in between sips. Try the Kopke Fine Tawny Port.
Butterfinger: Bugey Sparkling. Crackly, buttery rich wafers are balanced perfectly with the bubbles of this brut — plus, its fun to say. Try the Peillot Bugey Montagnieu Brut.
Twizzlers: Chardonnay. Experts know to sip this citrusy wine through the cherry ropes for an added punch of sweet fruit flavor. Just hope someone slips your kid a full-sized pack. Try the Sangouard-Guyot Pouilly-Fuisse Quintessence.
