One new tenant for the under-construction strip mall at the corner of Morganton and Brucewood roads has been confirmed to be Brooklyn Pickle.

Greg Kowadla says his Southern Pines location will have “more outside seating than inside,” and said the design of the patio could resemble this one. The location will also be one the brand’s first to serve beer.

The sandwich shop was founded in 1975 and has since grown to four locations in New York. The Southern Pines location will be its first outside of its home state. Owner Craig Kowadla says a childhood friend first introduced him to the area, and later to Forest Creek Golf Club, where he is now a member.

The site is currently under construction.

“The area is magnificent — the people, the golf — and business-wise, there’s nothing really like what we do,” he says.

So, what makes Brooklyn Pickle special? Craig says it’s sandwiches stuffed with half a pound or more of meat, from corned beef to pastrami. The restaurant also offers soups, salads, pasta and special catering options — oh, and quarts of pickles for $6.95.

This location will be among Craig’s first to have beer; it will also have  “more outside seating than inside” thanks to a large patio. It could open as early as June. Pickle your fancy.
