Thrice as Nice
Downtown Aberdeen’s glow-up is set to continue with the renovation of a long-vacant corner at W. Main and S. Sycamore streets. Lindy and Ryan Lamielle acquired 103, 105 and 109 W. Main St. in September, two years after initiating discussions with the previous owner. The couple also own the X on Main, a space they renovated on the other side of Main Street, inside a building on the National Register of Historic Places.

“We had the curiosity of ‘what if’ whenever we looked across the street,” says Lindy, who also works as an Aberdeen town planner. “With the condition that these historic buildings are in, it was the right time for someone to acquire them and bring them into better condition and open them to the public for some kind of retail or business.”
The corner building, 103 W. Main St., is divided into two storefronts, both of which are listed by Holly Bell at Carolina Summit Group. The others need significant improvements, Lindy says.
“Additional (major) exterior work is projected, but scope and timelines are still to be determined,” she wrote in an email. “Any major work will be submitted for planning board review and decision in the future as required, but no submissions are projected at this time. We have a transformative vision for all three properties and look forward to creating amazing spaces for future tenants to enjoy for years to come.”

Aberdeen Mayor Robbie Farrell says 103 and 105 Main St. were likely built between 1902-1912. According to the Better Business Bureau, Tanya Clark opened Renee’s Fabrics & Accessories in 1995. It operated by appointment only for some time before closing down completely.
“She did great business there and it’s time for those buildings to be back in business,” he says. “Too many times on that street, there wouldn’t be but one store open. I’m real tickled that someone is going to be doing something with them.” See the detailed listing here.
