The artist behind Sam & Sea artistry has now launched a new collection: Trace by Sam & Sea Artistry. The collection is handmade jewelry made from the mementos of precious times in your life. You can customize rings and necklaces made from your breastmilk, special fabrics, ashes and more. Sam Hiegel’s work has always been resin based but as her brand has evolved she says, “My hope is to become a destination for uncommon gifts.”
Sam is a mom and knows mothers are some of her biggest clients. After welcoming her second child she said, “I have a hard time letting go of certain chapters of motherhood. Breastfeeding is super emotional.” She had previously heard of jewelry made with breastmilk, but after researching how it was made, she realized she could make it too, locally. “It’s special being able to preserve those sweet memories and quiet moments with a piece of jewelry,” said Sam. “There’s so many chapters of parenthood that you don’t realize are closing until it hits.”
But there are almost endless ways to customize the jewelry. Sam has had clients send in all kinds of materials to preserve. “The jewelry allows you to stay with those pieces without feeling guilty that you’re getting rid of things,” says Sam. Colors of your jewelry will vary depending on what you send in and you also have the option to add details like gold flakes.
“The Moore County motherhood community has shaped my own journey so much and I don’t know how I can ever thank them enough,” says Sam.
