From Soaked to Stoked

Remember that viral photo of Full Moon Oyster Bar in Southern Pines practically underwater during the July 6 floods? Even the New York Timesreeled it in, which is why we’re shrimply enthused to announce that the restaurant has officially reopened and in record time. After just 17 days adrift they’re back with fresh flooring, some new walls and an almost entirely new kitchen (now featuring waterproof appliances).

General Manager Justin Carden seems to live by the old seafarer’s code: A good captain goes down with the ship. Justin and some of his team were actually in the building when the flooding started, attempting to minimize as much damage as they could before the fire department showed up deeming it unsafe to stay. It was clear the restaurant was, well, shucked.

According to Justin, the restaurant had about 3 inches of water inside at one point.

“A few people we didn’t even know showed up the next day with rags and mops to help clean up. I thought that was pretty cool,” says Justin. “We have a lot of golfers come through but our regulars in the community are really who keep us going.”

As of July 22, restaurant is officially open with normal hours. “We’re ready to see everyone again,” says Justin. Shuck yeah.
