Serving Up the Sauce

Saucy Cravings food truck just celebrated its first anniversary. Owner Yahlik Taylor bought the truck at just 21 years old after graduating from Sandhills Community College’s culinary arts program. He always knew he wanted a restaurant but when he noticed food trucks were trending, he shifted gears. He travels in and around Moore County but you can usually find his truck at Red’s Corner a few days a week.

The menu is wing-focused (regular and boneless) plus fries and the occasional special like pork egg rolls or fried(!) ribs. When Yahlik started, there weren’t many other wing trucks around and he wanted to fill a void in the area. But he loves to get lost in the sauce: they’re all homemade with the most popular being the Hot Honey.

Yahlik says his secret is that everything is cooked fresh to order, which is why you can always expect a 15-minute wait at his truck. “A lot of wing places partially cook it or partially fry it first but that drains out the moisture,” he says.

He says that when you’re running your own business, making smart choices is key. “When it’s busy, don’t take it for granted. December through February is not the best for food trucks.” Yahlik’s long term plans include expanding the menu with more comfort food, like mac ‘n cheese. Keep up with where Saucy Cravings is parked next on Facebook, or swing by Red’s Corner on Sunday to wish the sauce boss a happy anniversary.
