Donut Miss This

Granny’s Donuts is adding even more sugar to the menu. The local institution is now carrying ice cream from Legends Ice Cream & Churros, based in Greensboro. Granny’s owner Jesús Miron bought the business from his mentors, Vina and Toubee Phromsavanh, back in January 2024. He has since expanded the menu with more doughnut flavors and is bringing in even more options with ice cream.

Adding products will also help Granny’s expand hours in the summer months, especially since they’ve formerly run on the “open until sold out” model.

Options for ice cream include ice cream bars (including non-dairy,) scoops in cups or cones and even a donut ice cream sandwich, which you can get loaded with toppings. Jesús says they should be ready to start serving ice cream this weekend. Hours will expand to 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on the weekends, and eventually apply to weekdays as well.

In other news: Jesús is also working on opening a second location in Rockingham, which he hopes to have running in the next two months. “My goal is to make a small franchise,” he says, adding that he also likes the idea of opening a shop in Vass. A second location and expanded hours may seem like a lot, but Jesús’s partner CiCi says they’re up for the challenge — the family has a sweet goal to retire by 50.
