We don’t know what people in more predictable climates are doing, but over here we’re icing down our blueberries so they don’t freeze.

What’s happening at Olde Carthage Farm is actually a practice as common to agriculture as a family showing up in matching plaid for their annual photo. The trick is to add a little water at a time before freezing temperatures set in. The water releases heat as it turns to ice, which keeps the blossoms from freezing and allows them to produce a healthy fruit. Science.
