They’ve Bean Planning
Downtown Aberdeen continues to transform, this time for a brick and mortar coffee shop called Nova Vita Coffee, coming soon. It’s brought to you by Hanna Boyer, Cori Bray and DJ Lipscomb, who love the art of craft coffee. You’ll see work underway at 109 W. Main St., next to Eloise Trading Co. “It felt like it started as an inside joke to start our own shop but we never really hit a wall and now we’re here. It’s happening,” says Hanna. The group has been talking about opening a shop for the last two years.

“The good thing about it taking us as long as it has to get here is that we’ve had time to really refine our ideas,” says DJ. “We felt like there was an opportunity to bring a little bit more of a third place with a craft coffee focus to the area.” Eventually, they hope to host live music and events, like latte art competitions, in addition to having space for people to hang out for long periods of time. “Part of the reason we wanted a space of this size was that we wanted a big focus on events,” DJ says. “We wanted to bring the feeling of a big city coffee shop with the warmth of being in a small town.”
The shop will be completely gluten-free, a choice inspired by Cori and DJ’s youngest child, who has celiac disease. They understand firsthand how hard it can be to find safe options that actually taste good. Cori will lead the baking, while Hanna, a familiar face from several local coffee shops, will bring her barista skills to the team. DJ has been perfecting his coffee creations at home and is excited to share them with customers.

They also have plans for staying open late – sans alcohol. “We want it to be great for all ages. Aberdeen has the social district, which is great, but it’s important to have a space where people can hang out later in the evening if they don’t want to go to a bar. We wanted to do something different to fill in the gap,” says Hanna. They only just got the keys last week so they are aiming to open the first quarter of 2026.
