When we asked asked Kinga Ange, owner of Wonderland Tattoo Southern Pines, “What is trending in the tattoo world this year?” We expected a neat little list. Something like butterflies, barbed wire or a zodiac sign. Might we mention the scene kid fingerstache? Instead we were told that individuality is alive and well in the tattoo world. In the age of influencers and subscribing to the latest water bottle fad, hearing that people are inking outside the box was refreshing.

Originality makes trends a little harder to pin down at Wonderland Tattoo. Kinga can create virtually anything you ask for. “It’s always something different,” she says. Kinga also has a location in Asheboro, but in Southern Pines she notices the most common theme requests are American Traditional for men and florals of some kind for women. We know, florals, how groundbreaking. But like any good artist, Kinga still ensures no two tats are exactly alike.
The most uncommon requests she has had lately are for a style called cyber sigilism. “It’s kind of like fine line tribal. It’s wild and kind of abstract,” she says. We couldn’t even find many photographic examples of that, so if you have one, feel free to send it in.
- Find Wonderland Tattoo at 279 W Pennsylvania Ave. It’s open Saturday through Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome but dependent on artist availability.
