Get ready to … get bigger? We’re still shopping for a better way to say that. Anywho, Piggly Wiggly in Vass is under new ownership. David Smith, a South Carolina resident who owns some locations in the Charleston area, bought the Vass pig along with seven other North Carolina stores. “It was an opportunity from a really great family to buy these stores,” he says.
David hopes to update and improve the locations. The deli at the Vass location, which has been more-or-less abandoned for a number of years, will be stocked with homestyle meals. Perhaps the biggest change is that the store will now be open on Sundays, and — gasp — beer and wine will also be on the shelves.
“I think it’s gonna be better for customers, says manager J.W. Mills. “There will be more updates as the year goes on, too.” J.W. originally worked at the Piggly Wiggly as a teenager and then came back as an adult; he has now been there for 13 years and loves the community. Stop in 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday, or 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday.
