Knot Your Average Massage

Familiar with Thai massage? Us either until now, thanks to Southern Massage 910. Owner Beth Robinson has been a masseuse for 12 years, and switched from traditional deep tissue to Thai around five years ago to protect her own wrists from the wear and tear traditional massage can have on a therapist’s body.

So what is Thai massage? It blends traditional massage with stretching and reclined yoga-like poses. It involves more pulling, rocking and wiggling as opposed to just digging in. All of it is done on a mat on the floor, which makes it less restrictive for both Beth and the client. More than one spot at a time can be loosened up with this technique, giving you full-body relaxation.

“I find that Thai [massage] helps you get through problems faster,” says Beth, “It also helps me see how your body moves and better pinpoint where someone’s pain is, so I know where I need to work.”

Don’t let the lack of table intimidate you — Beth works on all ages and she won’t bend you in ways that your body just doesn’t bend. Like a normal massage, she’ll feel it out and gauge what’s best for you. Beth says another benefit of Thai Massage, is you can take your time with it— she recommends at least a 90 minute session.

Thai massage is done fully clothed; just show up in something comfy and she’ll do all the work. Find it at 10 Parker Lane, Pinehurst on the second floor, suite 2.
