To Bean or Not to Bean?

This season’s will-they-or-won’t-they coffee shop romance has a happy ending. Maisonette is officially open for good at 290 SW Broad St., Southern Pines. Episodes included a long renovation process, a couple of permitting misunderstandings, openings and temporary closures (they were on a break!). It’s all worth it to owner Amanda Reeves, who had taken to posting lighthearted updates with captions like “opening real soon, maybe, probably, if I survive.”

The shop is the only one in the area to feature Black and White Coffee Roasters, out of Raleigh. Their beans were handpicked by Amanda, a self-described coffee snob. Her personal favorite drink? An orange cardamom flat white. Milk options include whole, macadamia and oat.

Maisonette’s staple pastries include croissants, cinnamon rolls and Portuguese tarts, plus rotating specials that’ll include at least one gluten free treat. Once the in-house kitchen is up and running, a larger menu will likely roll out in phases, featuring light breakfast and lunch options.

Amanda with her husband Justin, aka Mr. Maisonette. His Instagram is “a look into the life of a husband with a boss babe for a wife, and all the jobs I didn’t realize I signed up for.”

“Seeing people in the space working or having their ‘mommy and me’ dates is really fun,” says Amanda. She says a block party for all the new shops in the building is in the works, and she is excited for more small business collabs — Rustic Pine Candle Co. is currently designing a signature scent for the space.
