Laurel Holden first started drawing as a way to enhance her writing while enrolled in UNC-Chapel Hill’s creative writing program. Since then, Holden’s “doodles” have developed into cartoons featured in local publications like PineStraw and FirstHealth magazines.

The Southern Pines native works as a library associate at Southern Pines Library, spending her free time writing and illustrating original pieces. Holden, who is currently working on her fourth book, draws inspiration from the world around her.

“I’m always inspired by my observations and Southern Pines provides that observation for me,” Laurel says. “The story I’m working on right now is inspired by this house I walk by in my neighborhood.”
