Marathon with a Mission
Meet Caitlin Sirkin, a local who is gearing up to run the NYC Marathon in support of Hilarity for Charity, a nonprofit that supports families and caregivers affected by Alzheimer’s, raises awareness on brain health education and funds critical research programs. This will be Caitlin’s third marathon, but her first in NYC. “It really meant a lot of me to run for a reason,” she says. The reason hits especially close to home for Caitlin because her grandmother passed from Alzheimer’s three years ago.
As if running a whole marathon wasn’t impressive enough, Caitlin is a Harvard Alumni who works as a nuclear medicine technician at Womack Army Medical Center performing PET/CT scan studies. One study, she tells us, just got FDA approved as a way to screen for early Alzheimer’s diagnoses. Advances like this give her hope for others that could be affected by the disease. “I’m very excited to run this marathon and do it for my grandmother,” says Caitlin.
- Each charity runner has to meet a fundraising goal to run in the marathon. 100% of the proceeds go toward the nonprofit.
