Information about the devastating effects of Hurricane Helene is continuing to roll in from the North Carolina mountains. Flooding has washed out major and secondary roadways, shutting much of western NC off from resources, and people in Moore County are mobilizing to find ways to help.
Early Saturday morning, Moore County resident Courtney Craven Eury made a post on Facebook pleading for help. The post, which tells the story of what a lot of people are going through, quickly accumulated tens of thousands of shares.
At the same time, Cris Lassiter, Carthage resident and founder of the Major Events & All Hazards Group on Facebook, was working to identify a collection site and post lists of items that can be donated.
Here’s a list of collection sites that we’ll work to keep updated:

- Pinehurst, Southern Pines, Aberdeen Area CVB, Moore County Airport, 7895 N.C. 22, Carthage
- Everything Pines Partners: 180 E Connecticut Ave., Southern Pines; 1 Clubhouse Road, Whispering Pines; 219 E Franklin St., Rockingham
- Moore Equine Feed and Pet is collecting monetary donations for animals affected by the storm. Stop in at 1012 North May Street, Southern Pines
- James Creek Cider House: 172 US-1, Cameron
- Southern Pines Growler Co.: 160 W New York Ave, Southern Pines

- October 3, 6-8 p.m.: Buy a hot dog plate from Kalawi Farm in Eagle Springs as they partner with Baptists on Mission. Hot Dog plates are $8. 100% of proceeds go to disaster relief. Hot Dogs for Helene.
