Ashley Tramontin has spent the past year at Against the Grain Shoppe (220 NW Broad St, Southern Pines) curating a collection of merchandise that reflects the talent and creativity of Moore County and beyond.

This Saturday, Ashley and the Against the Grain team are commemorating one year of business with an in-store celebration. They’ll be popping bottles, serving up cake from Indigo Earth Events and offering fun discounts throughout the store.

What started as a passion for refinishing furniture for her own home almost eight years ago blossomed into a full-on business for Ashley. She says she’s incredibly grateful for community’s support of Against the Grain and their willingness to always shop local.

“I think we live in a very creative community,” Ashley says. “We’re always finding new makers, and people really show up for them.”

Around 60 percent of the goods in her store are made in North Carolina. Included in that 60 percent are items from 30 local vendors. From refinished furniture and wall decor to jewelry, Against the Grain takes the phrase “shop local” to the next level.

If you haven’t taken a look around, here’s peek at some items from a few of the makers on display in Against the Grain.
