Passing the Bump

After 11 years, Bump & Baby owner, Katrin Franklin, is passing the torch. New owner Alissa Jones is a mother of four and longtime supporter of the shop who also owns Nourish Me Naturals, a tallow-based skincare company. She first met Katrin while doing a pop-up event at Bump & Baby. Their friendship quickly grew and Alissa began working in the store more and more. “It felt like the right time, the right person and the right relationship,” says Katrin, who is excited to see Alissa bring fresh ideas to the biz.

“I’ve been through all the stages of motherhood so I feel like I can be a good resource for moms,” says Alissa. Her kids range in age from 10-18. She plans to bring in more events such as mom group meetups, workshops, lactation consultant Q & A’s and princess tea parties. But you can still expect to see all the usual goods in store like organic cotton clothes, sustainable toys and more.

Wait, so what about Katrin? Those who know her know that she’s heavily involved in the community – and she doesn’t plan to stop. She currently serves as president of Pinehurst Business Partners and will remain in that role through the end of the year while supporting Alissa’s transition to full ownership and operations. Katrin’s next step is to be a Sandhills Community College Small Business Center counselor where she’ll get to do more one-on-one mentorship and pass on some of her knowledge to others whether they’re considering beginning a business or need extra support.

  • Sunday, Aug. 23, 1-4 p.m.: Meet the new owner and celebrate 11 years of Bump & Baby with giveaways, treats, live music and more. Oh, baby.
