Gardens of the Galaxy

Pick up what they’re growing down at Blueberry Hill Farm, where you can fill your basket, bucket or Aldi tote full of tulips. Janice and Anthony Dyson have operated the farm in Sanford for seven years, selling u-pick blueberries along with jams, ice cream, baked goods, slushees and more. This year, the couple decided to extend their farm season with tulips — 21,000 of them.

So, how does it work? There is a $3 farm entry fee and then you pay per flower; cut them at the stem for $1 each or dig up the bulb for $1.25. You can expect to see strawberries around mid-April, and blueberries and strawberries should be ready in the middle of May. In the summer you’ll find u-pick zinnias, sunflowers and more.

“One of my favorite things is seeing the beautiful families that come out with professional photographers and use our fields,” says Janice. Don’t wait on the tulips, though, because they’re only expected to bloom for another two weeks. Find it at 3122 White Hill Rd, Sanford. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 1-6 p.m. Sunday. Watch Facebook for updates.
