Poplar’s Getting Popular
Aberdeen is getting a new bar called Poplar Place, brought to you by the owners of The Workshop Tavern. Owner Nate Lonnen says he sees the two spots as sister places that have a similar feel, but their own identity. The sexy new bar has an “old European, dark and moody speakeasy” vibe. It won’t serve food but you’ll be able to bring in bites from other spots like Workshop or Pizzeria Grazia. “Moore County has been great to us and we’re excited to give everyone something else,” says Nate.

It will focus on traditional prohibition-era cocktails but Nate says they are also curating a menu of non-alcoholic bevs, CBD drinks and a nice wine selection. Poplar Place won’t have any taps but does offer more than 50 varieties of beer bottles and cans.
“We’re still kind of lacking that nightlife feel in Aberedeen,” says Nate. “I think as more places open, and hopefully stay open late, we can rejuvenate that nightlife. It’ll be a good addition to the walkability of downtown too.” In Nate’s eyes, more is more when it comes to having options. The extended social district is also a plus. “We love this town, love seeing it grow and want to be a part of the growth,” he says.
Also available are cigars to smoke on the back patio. Nate’s goal for that space was a lively, fun ambience with picnic tables, yard games (coming soon) and room for standing and mingling. The back patio will ramp up during the warmer months. “It’s nice that it’s off a main road, too,” he says.

A grand opening will be planned later this spring but for now you can catch Poplar Place open 3 p.m. to midnight Thursday and Friday and noon to midnight Saturday through Sunday. Find it at 108 N. Poplar St., Aberdeen in what was formerly The Village Wine Shop Aberdeen. Cheers.
