Here for a Lung Time
Thanks to a donation by The Foundation of FirstHealth, FirstHealth of the Carolinas now has a mobile lung cancer screening unit called The Lung Bus. The Lung Bus offers free, low-dose CT scans to those who qualify, which takes about 10 minutes. The bus is one of two of its kind in the state.

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death and early detection is key, whether you have symptoms or not. While other cancers tend to get a lot of focus, “lung cancer awareness tends to fall in between the cracks,” says Ellen Cooper, Strategic Relationship Manager at FirstHealth and director of the Lung Bus. “The goal is to provide access wherever we can.”
The Lung Bus travels in and around Moore County wherever it’s requested. “Everyone probably knows someone who can benefit from getting a scan,” says Ellen. Volunteers have even seen people come across the bus in the wild and immediately call their grandparents, telling them to come get scanned. After a scan, a patient can expect results within a few days. See qualifications, additional info and where The Lung Bus will be next.
