From Greek to Chic

After a renovation that took nearly three years, the former home of Theo’s Taverna has been transformed into Seven 27 Lounge — a sexy new spot for fine dining, cocktails and late-night bites in downtown Pinehurst, with swanky seating and a loft.

“It’s pretty unrecognizable,” says founder and general manager Conner Smith. “We wanted to give it a proper facelift that would last a long time.”

Conner says he fell in love with the hospitality industry when working in his family’s traveling carnival business (we want to know more about that too, but that’s a story for another time). While spending 2020 sheltering in place at his mom’s house in Pinehurst, he came up with his own business plan.

“I loved how incredibly welcoming the locals are and the fact that there is the tourism industry as well, and I wanted to provide a unique kind of upscale nightlife experience,” he says. The name is a nod to the area code of St. Petersburg, Conner’s hometown.

Conner has partnered with chef Meg Church. Originally from Poland, Meg lived and cooked across Europe before moving to Moore County. She’s added pastry chef Rayna Parter and sous chef Michael Margolis to the team of what will be her first commercial kitchen, where she says she plans to create minimalist dishes that highlight the ingredients.

Visit Seven 27 Lounge at 38 Chinquapin Road, Pinehurst, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, and 11 a.m. until midnight on Friday and Saturday. See menus for lunch, dinner, cocktails and bar bites online.
