The no-frills spot on 106 W. South Street in Aberdeen that’s long been home to Mexican restaurants has reopened as Mi Familia.

Recent improvements to the sidewalks in downtown Aberdeen really set off the front of the building.

Mareza Rincon, who shares ownership of the restaurant with family members Alondra Escudero, Odlia Escudero and Sergio Saavedra, said the team had been working since October to install a new bar and other upgrades. Today (Monday) was the first day of business for the family, members of which also owned La Poblanita.

“We had all worked other places and decided to open up a place for ourselves,” Mareza says. “This place has been in the same family for 25 years.”

You’ll find a simple menu of soups and burritos, plus taco salad and cream of habanero (above) — sliced chicken cooked with mushrooms, peppers and onions in a creamy sauce that ranges from mild to hot AF. Oh, and there’s a full bar once again. See the whole menu here.

The restaurant is open Monday-Thursday from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m., and Friday-Saturday from 11 a.m. until 9:30 p.m. The number is (910) 757-0135.
