For Frill Seekers
Lovers of girly, vintage charm will be pleased to see boutique Southern Satinhas moved to Downtown Aberdeen. The boutique originally opened in Sanford, where it operated for about 25 years. But with owner Laura Thomas’ daughter dancing in the area five days a week, it made sense for her to be nearby.

In addition to boutique clothing like dresses, blouses, blue jeans and other accessories, Southern Satin also offers custom goods through their “Petticoat” line. “It’s very country, very floral. That’s totally our vibe,” says Laura. She can sew anything from sorority bags, quilts, lamps, curtains and more. Plus, she offers screen printing shirts businesses and sororities around the state.
The custom goods began when Laura’s oldest daughter left for college and wanted her dorm room to look like a LoveShackFancy store. “I made a bunch of stuff by hand for the room and put it on TikTok. It went viral so we started selling on Etsy, then eventually made a website,” says Laura. Soon the store will also carry a custom Mahjong set.

Laura and her daughters love to thrift for unique materials to upcyle into something new. “We try to make sure everything in the store is extremely unique,” says Laura. Her youngest daughter, Riverlyn, says “being at the store feels like being at your favorite pink froo-froo grandma’s house — which I had. So it feels cozy.”

A grand opening will be planned sometime this spring. For now you can shop 11 a.m. to. 7:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday. Saturday hours can vary, but you’ll typically find the shop open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. You can also shop all the frills online.
