Photos from Veterans Day Parade

Saturday, 10 a.m. The Fifth Annual Southern Pines Veterans Parade rolls through downtown Southern Pines. Make sure to look up, as the Bandit Flight Team will soar over the procession. The Sky Diving Angels kick off the event by landing at the Sunrise at 9:45 a.m. Becca Rae closes the morning with a free concert on the outdoor stage.


Saturday, noon-9: Enjoy the annual Veterans Day Pig Roast at The Sly Fox. The meal is $19.95/$9.95 for veterans and active duty military.

Saturday, 1 p.m.: Head to the Village Hall for the MOAA Veterans Day Observance. While you’re in Pinehurst, check out The First Gulf War exhibit at the Welcome Center.

Saturday, 3-9: Partake in all-you-can-eat oysters, a low country boil, sides, and beer at Southern Pines Brewing Company. Tickets are $50/$45 military. Kids are free, and yes, there’ll be a bounce house and live music. Proceeds benefit STOIC, an organization that helps Army Special Forces transition back to everyday life.

Saturday, 7 p.m.: The SCC Jazz Band will put on a free concert at Owens Auditorium.

Sunday, 11:30: Run a 5K and then load up on chili. What could go wrong? A $30 entry fee covers the race, a T-shirt, and all the samples you can handle. Proceeds benefit local Special Forces veterans. More info here.

Sunday, 1-7: Local bluegrass musicians congregate in Vass for the third annualBlueVass Festival. It’s free, but proceeds from the sale of chicken and barbecue plates ($8) benefit local vets.
