Stick With It
More than just a beer league, the Pinehurst Hockey Association was started by a group of guys who wanted to bring an organized system and real games to the area. “Anytime you can shoot the puck around is a good time,” says one organizer, Wesley Page. “We wanted to build a community around a sport we’re already playing.” The idea began with a group of guys who played pickup roller hockey at Rassie Wicker Park any night the lights were on. Now, their upcoming season with four teams will go until February.

Thanks to overwhelming interest, the league is already full for the season but Wesley encourages those interested to still sign up to be put on a waitlist or sub list. “I’ve only been playing two years but there’s some guys that have been playing a decade, since the rink was built. It gets a lot of use,” says Wesley. He would love to see the sport continue to grow. For those who want to spectate from the bleachers, the league officially begins Nov. 1 with games on Saturdays.
