From Flowers to Flour
The Nectary is close to opening its new location at 121 Bank St. in Vass. Brought to you by Mary Garrison, who also owns Willabee in downtown Southern Pines, the bakery is meant to mimic a European patisserie. She outgrew her original space in Vass, behind Crossroads Coffee.

The new (old) building was built in the late 1800s and served as a jewelry and watch repair shop for some time. Mary has created an old-world feel where she plans to put her baking and pastry arts degree to good use. “I want to bring a little bit of the European experience to Vass,” she says. The nectary, Mary explains, is the center of the flower where nectar is produced. “It’s the sweet spot,” she says, thus the business name and the nods to marigolds you’ll see throughout the shop. “I’m fulfilling my childhood dream,” says Mary. An espresso machine is on the way for basic coffee offerings.
For now, The Nectary is in its soft opening phases but you can expect a grand opening April 17 at 9 a.m. From there she plans to open Friday and Saturdays to start. For more, buzz over to Instagram.
