The Sunrise Theater is transforming their upstairs loft into a 25-person microtheater that’s set to open in March. The space will be available as a private party rental for movie nights, birthday parties, book clubs and more in March.
Dubbed The Sunrise Loft, the space will include a 20-25-foot screen with auxiliary compatibility for gaming systems. Also included is a concession area and a dining/meeting room.
DAHR (ICYMI: opening soon in downtown Southern Pines) and Furniture in the Pines is donating comfortable couches, chairs and tables for the theater. The woodwork in the concession and dining areas is being restored with the help of Against the Grain Shoppe owner Ashley Tramontin. Designer Mandee Dieguez is also lending her talents.
Though The Sunrise Loft is only available for private parties now, executive director MaryBeth Poplyk says she hopes to open the microtheater for repertoire film showings post-COVID.
“All of our pivots throughout the pandemic have turned into opportunities that’ll continue after this is all over,” MaryBeth says. “I’m so grateful for the support of our community and the amazing group of small business owners.”
