On Bee-ing an Artist

Meet artist Hannah Roser. Hannah is originally from Rochester, New York but moved to the area in 2021. She says it was a little tough at first to “figure out where I could fit in,” but has grown a lot in the last year and realized the local art scene is bigger than she initially thought. Hannah describes her style as lighthearted, and draws influence from Risograph, a type of printing developed in Japan back in the ’80s.

Hannah does lots of freelance work and you may recognize her style from local event posters such as the Lip Rippin Chicken Wing Cook Off, skate jams and even this June’s PineStraw magazine cover. You’ll notice one of her favorite things to draw his her signature bee. “It’s a unique job,” she says. “I get to create something in my mind and transform a blank page.”

The main thing Hannah wants people to keep in mind? Supporting human artists is cool. “There is a lot of AI out in the world right now, and that can be hard to compete with. It’s important to support humans that are trying to create art,” she says. See more of her work on her website.
