Yet again Social Media suggests to us that this should be the perfect family event with matching outfits, cute hats, and everyone smiling in front of the tree they’ll bring home. We’ve figured out some ways for you to make it happen whether this is exactly what you are looking for or exactly what you aren’t. Here are some places with local live trees available.
Mistletoe Meadows in Pinehurst at the corner of 211 in Olmstead Village is where you want to go if you want a celebrity tree, since two trees from their farm are currently in the White House. You’ll find a variety of trees from 2 to 14 feet, ranging in prices from $20-400. They also have fresh cut wreaths, holly ferns and 2 options for the perfect photo op, a sleigh or a cute photobooth. Their hours are are 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. during the week and 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. on weekends. Pro tip: They’ll receive a tree restock Tuesday evening so Wednesday is a great day to shop.
Johnathon Foster has live trees set up on the corner for 15-501 and Murray Hill Road, right next to Lowe’s in case you need more lights. They have a good selection of trees ranging from $45-85 with some topping 10 feet. Hours are 9 a.m. – 8 p.m. every day.
Andy’s Christmas Trees is located behind Pony Espresso in the lot by Thyme and Place Cafe. You can get a meal or a coffee before shopping their huge lot of live trees. Prices range from $50-500 and with heights up to 14 feet. Open everyday from 8 a.m. – 7 p.m.
Gulley’s Garden Center in downtown Southern Pines has trees but don’t wait too long to pick one as they usually sell out by the first of December. Their stock of 300 trees is already quite small in comparison. For something a little different, check out their amazing ivy and table top trees. The prices range from $39-100. They are open 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday – Saturday and closed on Sundays.
Doby Christmas Tree Farm in Cameron has trees you can pick and chop down yourself. They grow the fluffy variety, so you may need to rethink your ornament strategy; and because of this year’s storms, they have a limited supply. Check their Facebook page for updates.
Christmas Tree Cottage: Fans swear trees bought at this Vass shop never die. They are open from 3-8 p.m. Monday through Sunday at 120 East Maple St.

If you’d like to fake it till you make it and prefer fake trees, the best places to get them are your local hardware stores.
Burney Hardware in Aberdeen and Seven Lakes have 7.5 feet pre-lit and realistic trees for $119 and classic 7 footers for 79.99. Bonus: They also blink if you are into that. Hours are Monday – Friday 8 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Southern Pines ACE Hardware has 7 – 14 foot trees, that range from $99-499. Choose from pre-lit, or maybe a snowy white tree. Bring the family and check out garden center that has been transformed into Christmasville. Hours are 7:30 a.m. – 7 p.m. Monday-Saturday and Sunday 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.
