Because the Southern Pines Town Council has shared interest in moving forward with a multi-use trail for Knoll Road that would connect existing Southern Pines and Pinehurst greenways. The plan has been around since 2014 but has stalled due to costs more than your oxen on the Oregon Trail. Thenewest estimate is about $1.6 million, but a federal program would cover 80 percent of costs. Just hold on to your wagons — a construction date has not yet been set.
