We’re Not Trolling You

Driving into Southern Pines, you may have noticed a tree with a tiny troll-sized door wedged into a tree in front of Jay’s Food Mart and gas station. Exactly how long it’s been around we couldn’t say, but it’s been around long enough to have a mortgage and hopefully a better interest rate than us. The real question is who made this door? Is it an Alice in Wonderland situation? Does something live in it? Will solving a riddle get us free gas?

Our search for answers began and ended in Jay’s Food Mart, where manager Babu Nair jokingly said, “I don’t know who did it but if I find out, I want them to do it at my house. I have big trees.” Unless there’s an HOA for fairies and other woodland creatures, we don’t know who else to ask. We figured we’d wait for someone to come out of the, heh, woodwork.
