U.S. 1 Won’t Be the Same

ICYMI, Dunrovin Country Store was heavily damaged in a fire that burned for hourrrrrrrs on Saturday night. Today (Monday), owner Patrick Milcendeau told The Pilot that the store is a total loss. There’s been no official word on the cause from the county fire marshal. There’s also no official word on where we’ll go now for ice cream, Amish deli sandwiches and 200 brands of novelty hot sauce.

“Any time we would knock the fire down, it would pop up in another location,” said Cypress Pointe Fire & Rescue Fire Chief Mike Cameron. The eclectic layout, with inventory packing the shelves and hanging from the ceiling, made the store difficult for firefighters to maneuver.

But what about the animals?! Dunrovin is no longer home to its exotic animal sanctuary. That closed at the end of 2024, and the USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service agents helped re-home all the critters. What will become of the beloved store is uncertain. More on all this here.
