What’s SkinPen? Your Questions Answered by a Pro

Because sometimes a SkinPen and about an hour in the chair at Fanatical Skin & Ink is all you need to work a little magic. The only FDA-approved microneedling device on the market, SkinPen is incredibly gentle and minimally invasive — and it’ll rid your face of all those — ahem — battle scars.

We knew you’d have questions, so we asked Fanatical Skin & Ink owner Nicole Johnson for some answers. As always, you’re welcome.

Q: So, what is SkinPen, and how does it work?

A: SkinPen is the only FDA approved microneedling device. Microneedling is a minimally invasive skin rejuvenation procedure that helps minimize the signs of aging, improve the appearance of acne scars and rejuvenate aging skin.

The SkinPen microneedling device causes controlled micro-injures that stimulate the body’s natural wound healing process. The micro-injuries trigger the release of cytokines and growth factors that lead to remodeling and production of new collagen and elastin.

Q: When will I see results? How long do they last?

A: Following the treatment, you may see immediate smoothing in the first week. Additionally, you will continue to see improvement up to three to six months after your treatment as collagen continues to remodel. The best results are seen when three treatments are performed one month apart. However, some people will benefit by having more than three treatments.

Q: What happens after?

A: SkinPen is unique in that it provides dramatic results with minimal downtown. Immediately after treatment, you will be red and may feel that the treated skin is tight. The inflammatory response the SkinPen sets in motion feels like a sunburn, but the process in the skin is very different.

The next day, you’ll probably be pink and may still feel a bit irritated, but you can put makeup and go about your normal activities.

Q: Why should I choose SkinPen?

SkinPen is clinically proven to reduce the appearance of acne scars. In fact, 90 percent of subjects in the clinical trial would recommend the treatment to friends and family. It’s a minimally invasive procedure performed in-office with little downtime. as the first FDA-cleared microneedling device, SkinPen setsthe industry standard for safety.

It’s the first FDA-cleared microneedling devicee in the world, clinically proven to safely and effectively treat facial acne scars for ages 22 and up.

With as few as three non-invasive and affordable treatments spaced 30 days apart, you can improve your appearance for six months after you last treatment — and step out with confidence.

Q: Will it work for me?

Unlike some alternatives, SkinPen has been clinically proven to be effective for women and men with skin ranging from light to very dark. LIkewise, unlike lasers or chemical peels that can damage skin over the long term, SkinPen treatments can be used for years when properly spaced and overseen by a provider.

Q: How does it work?

A: SkinPen creates hundreds to thousands of “micro” skin punctures per second to stimulate the skin’s natural wound healing process — inflammation, proliferation and remodeling — to prompt tissue remodeling without causing scar tissue formation.

Q: Is it safe?

A: Yes, by design. SkinPen’s patent-pending and single-use cartridge is built with safety in mind. SkinPen is also surrounded by properietary BioSheath that acts as a barrier to prevent cross contamination between procedures.

Q: How much does it cost?

A: Microneedling procedures tend to cost less than the alternatives due to their non-invasive nature. The cost of SkinPen procedures varies depending on the size and number of treatment areas. During your consultation, your provider can develop a plan to work within your budget.
