Next time you’re looking for something to spruce up your space, stop into Rhizome Houseplants. You may recognize owner Chelsea Fields from her old store in Sanford, Eyelight Coffee. Chelsea and her husband have many hobbies which they channeled into a business. After closing Eyelight and moving to Carthage, the duo decided to scale down and focus on houseplants instead of having so many moving parts.
“I call myself a professional plant hunter,” says Chelsea who looks for exotic and rare plants. “Nothing is as satisfying as taking care of plants,” she says. Rhizome will offer potting and care tips as well as plants, plant tools and more. “We can grow with you on your plant journey,” she adds.
Chelsea found her love of plants through a peace lily she inherited from her grandmother. She made her mission to keep it alive after initially struggling and everything progressed from there. She says “there’s always more to learn.”
Although the main focus is plants, the store will still offer a coffee and tea menu as well as crystals, American traditional stickers, housewares, comics and more.
Fun fact: A rhizome is a root system some plants have and it has a horizontal growth pattern.
You can find Rhizome Houseplants at 7500 NC HWY 15-501 S, next to Cox’s Double Eagle Harley-Davidson. Chelsea is still tweaking the hours but for now you can shop 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Like Rhizome Houseplants on Facebook to see updates and what’s in store.
