Now that we know which days of the week our kids will be going to school, we can actually plan for the days they’re not. We’ve rounded up a list of local businesses who are coming to the rescue of working parents.
National Athletic Village

The National Athletic Village is offering camps that’ll offer time for homework, zoom instruction, and extended outdoor recess for kids in grade K-8. More info here.
Here’s the FAQ:
- Hours are from 7:30-5:30, Monday through Friday.
- Options are full-day ($75) and half-day ($50).
- Time spent indoors will be limited.
- The coach-to-camper ratio will be kept low.
- Surfaces and equipment are sanitized daily.
365 Soccer Academy
365 Soccer Academy is offering a Fit & Fun Camp for kids, covering everything from simple stretches to strength and conditioning.
Ages: Grades K-8
Days: Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays
Times: 9 a.m. to noon
Place: Cannon Park, Pinehurst
Cost: $30/day or $100/week.
Carolina Dojo Martial Arts
Carolina Dojo has expanded its offerings to Sandhills After School, a full-day program with time for virtual learning as well as martial arts classes and arts and crafts. More info.
Ages: Grades K-5
Days: Mondays through Fridays
Times: 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Place: Carolina Dojo, Aberdeen
Cost: Varies based on chosen schedule
Sandhills Gymnastics
Sandhills Gymnastics is offering a “virtual assist” camp during the day, and an after-school camp in the afternoon.
Ages: Grades K-5
Days: Mondays through Fridays
Times: 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Place: Sandhills Gymnastics, Aberdeen
Cost: $24-$36 a week
Play Escape
Play Escape has introduced a “group study” option, with one hour of playtime and one hour of private instruction for a group of kids along with a parent or guardian. Drop off day camps are also running from 9:30-12:30 Monday through Friday for $25 per child / $18 per sibling.
Rugg Rats
This spot best known for drop-in childcare is holding “virtual learning” days, with snacks and lunch provided. More info.
Ages: Five and up
Days: Mondays through Fridays
Times: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Place: Rugg Rats, Southern Pines
Cost: From $70 for two days to $175 a week
Encore’s B-Schedule Program
The Encore Center is offering a two-day camp, either Mondays and Tuesdays or Thursdays and Fridays. The center also offers an arts immersion program on Wednesdays, for ages 6-10.
