Get a (Buggy) Load of This

The Buggy Factory by Southern Pines Brewing Co. is officially opening Wednesday, May 22. Work has been ongoing to preserve pieces of the historic 1856 Tyson & Jones Buggy Co., but also to reimagine the space as a brewery and restaurant. “I hope the people of Carthage are hungry,” says owner Micah Niebauer.

Inside you’ll find bar and table seating, as well as couches you can order from and then promptly enjoy a food coma. The primary menu item is Detroit-style pizza, which you can get in a variety of combinations. You’ll also find salads, apps and desserts like warm chocolate chip cookies. Lunch service will include sandwiches.

Chef Emily Harris says she is particularly excited about the dishes with international flair, like “The K-Town” pizza with kimchi, scallion and yum yum sauce, or “The Birria” made with birria beef, brick cheese and green sauce and served with consommé.

“The buggy is ready to roll,” says Micah. “We are ready for people to come and help us break the restaurant in.” The lower level of the building includes a brewhouse which is expected to be up and running with specialty brews later this summer. A speakeasy, cocktail-focused bar dubbed The Tyson & Jones room is expected to be serving in time for the grand opening on July 12.

For now, The Buggy Factory will be open Wednesday through Saturday, closing between lunch and dinner service. Visit from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 4-10 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 4-11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. See the full menu here.
