Before creating her own small business, Melanie Shanahan attended the Savannah College of Art and Design. She then became a full time working mom and military spouse, and as time passed she wanted to reconnect with her artistic side. Thus H2 Co. was born.
The idea “just kind of happened,” she said. “The first jacket I made for myself and people would stop me and ask where they could get one.” Jean jackets have been coming back into style and Melanie couldn’t find one that was both unique and affordable, so she designed her own. “It isn’t necessarily meant to be a full time business, I just need a creative outlet.” The company name is in honor of her two sons, Harper and Hardin.
Creating the jackets involves patching, painting and/or sewing with a lot of imaginative contemplation. She says sometimes people come to her with their own ideas and sometimes she gets to take full creative liberty. Although it is a time intensive process so her prices vary depending on what you want and the hours put in.
