Buckle Up, Buttercup

We’ve officially entered the year’s busiest stretch. We know, we know, but someone had to say it, and we’re here to pester you into scheduling those core memories now. Here’s a list of things you’ll want to plan ahead for:

  1. To keep the doctor away: An apple a day, right? Millstone Creek Orchards offers Hallmark movie-grade apple picking, apple cider doughnuts and more, but time slots sell out each year. Book it now.
  2. For fair food: What else will they come up with to deep fry? Save the date for the North Carolina State Fair for all the funky foods, rides and agricultural displays from Oct. 17-27.
  3. Because adults can dress up too: The Carolina Renaissance Fair returns to Huntersville for 16th century coded exhibits and entertainment. Wear your fantasy garb (or don’t) and see mermaids, jousting and more on weekends from Oct. 5 through Nov. 24. Hear ye, hear ye!
  4. Because you believe: Enjoy some hot hot hot chocolate aboard the Polar Express Train ride in Spencer. See November and December dates. Are Thomas and Percy more your speed? Check that out here.
  5. For some holiday cheer: Visit The Biltmore Estate between November and December to see it decorated for Christmas. Candlelight tickets let you get the evening effect, twinkle lights and all. ‘Tis the season.
  6. To dazzle your seeing-holes: See lanterns in creative shape plus plenty of Instagram photo ops (light-up swings, anyone?) during the Chinese Lantern Festival in Cary. The festival is Nov. 16 through Jan. 12 but buying early could save you money. Light it up.
