Find Your Inner Yin and Yang

SAMA, a new yoga studio, opened its doors today at The Shops at Tyler’s Ridge. Owner Brenn Micael previously managed the yoga portion of Workhorse Fitness, but a studio of her own was always in her mind. “Timing is everything and this was divine timing,” says Brenn.

Brenn has managed yoga studios around the country while her husband was in the military. Now that he is retired, Brenn says she’s finally grounded. She has been practicing yoga for 13 years and wanted her studio to have a wide variety of classes. “Sama,” she says, means balance. “When we’re talking about our physical body, it’s important to have both strength and flexibility. Having both is what creates healthy muscles,” she says.

Sama is entirely unheated, and classes will be limited to 20 people. While Brenn recommends signing up ahead of time, you can also walk in. You don’t need a membership but she’s offering a special package right now.

“Everyone is in hustle culture. I wanted to create a space of retreat for people,” she says. The natural and organic aesthetic was achieved with the help of Brenn’s sister, Lauren Wagoner, who owns Elle Luna Interiors.

The class lineup is light for now, but there are plans to offer express classes at lunchtime and teacher training in the fall. Classes are available daily at 320 Capital Drive, Southern Pines (formerly Harper Jewel Boutique); the studio provides blocks and mats. View the schedule online.
