Trying to wrangle a sick, angry demon into a car seat during the daytime is hard, but the new FirstHealth On the Go app makes it easier to avoid dragging them to the ED at midnight-thirty.

FirstHealth On the Go will allow patients to speak with a doctor 24 hours a day, seven days a week via a phone, tablet or computer, connecting you with a board-certified physician before little Timmy can even think about having a monster truck meltdown.

“The idea of a virtual visit might sound intimidating at first but think of it this way – if you FaceTime with friends or family, you can use FirstHealth On the Go,” says Dr. Daniel Barnes, president of FirstHealth Physician Group. “Your visit will likely be over in a matter of minutes, and you can be on your way to feeling better without leaving your home.”

How it Works

FirstHealth On the Go is offered through a partnership with Teladoc, which employs a host of board-certified physicians who specialize in virtual medical care. On the Go physicians will treat many common medical conditions, from cold and flu symptoms to allergies, pink eye, ear and respiratory infections, sinus and skin problems and other non-emergency medical conditions.

They will also be able to send prescriptions to a pharmacy of your choice.

Though Teledoc physicians won’t be able to officially diagnose illnesses that involve laboratory tests like strep throat, they will be able to provide information on whether or not a patient should go to their primary care doctor for a test. And, patients will also have the ability to share notes from their virtual visit with a primary care physician.

Who Can Use It

On the Go will help fill gaps in coverage for every member of the family who might not be able to make it to their primary care physician, for whatever reason.

“I’m excited to see how FirstHealth On the Go will improve the experience for people who need medical care,” he said. “We all know that cold or flu symptoms don’t always pop up during the business day, so we are thrilled that we can meet our patients’ needs whenever they arise.” The cost of a visit will depend on your health plan. To get started, download the app on your mobile device or visit the On the Go website to register.
