Trust the Process

The building that formerly housed Southern Pines Escape is undergoing a transformation to become Process Cycling, an indoor cycle studio. Kelsey Diesing and Mel Flynn have been cycle instructors since 2018 and recently partnered with cycle enthusiast Ameeta Swaby to open the studio.  “Think party on a bike,” says Kelsey. “I feel like Southern Pines has been craving this.”

“Our goal is to be supplementary to what people are already doing with their strength and conditioning protocol. We don’t want people to feel like they have to quit their normal gym,” says Kelsey. “That was actually something we noticed,” says Mel, “we are cycle instructors at Forte Fitness and it has a small cycle program, but people from other gyms don’t want to come because they feel like they’re cheating on their gym.”

If you’ve been inside Southern Pines Escape, you’ll know that there are lots of little rooms. Those will be demoed to create one big room with 24 bikes. Classes are open to everyone; some will be choreo-style and others will be endurance focused, without the fancy moves. Bikes will require clip-in shoes but rentals will be available. “They make for a better ride,” says Mel.

There will be a variety of class options, from memberships to packages to drop-ins. The studio will be open six days a week (but owners are spinning around the idea of seven). It could open by April but in the meantime, those wheely excited can follow Process Cycling on Instagram.
