Junction Hall Project Suspended
The would-be developers of a long-vacant downtown Aberdeen building announced in a social media post on Wednesday, March 5 that they have decided to “suspend the development” of the project. The 15,000-square-foot former home of Lee’s Five and Dime was set to transform into a modern, two-story food court named Junction Hall.

Initial plans were announced in December 2023 and the Aberdeen Planning Board approved the project in September 2024. On Feb. 11, the Junction Hall team said on Instagram that they had received final building permit approvals and made contractor selections.
Wednesday’s post reads: “Our hearts and souls were poured into this concept and project; we had a vision and tried our absolute hardest to bring it to life. We tried to fight bureaucracy, macro-environmental challenges, lending hurdles, and surging costs, but there were ultimately too many headwinds to overcome.” See the full post here.
