Local couple Brittany and Oresti Arsi are the team behind Meat and Greek, a new food truck that’s delivering gyros, greek fries and fava beans from Moore County to the triangle.
Oresti grew up bussing and waiting tables in his family’s restaurant, Corfu Taverna, in the downtown Southern Pines space that is now Chapman’s. The two met at the restaurant when Oresti waited on Brittany’s table. Several phone calls led to a date, and they’ve been together, Brittany says, “pretty much every day since.”
After moving to be closer to Oresti’s family in Naples, Fla. — and having kids of their own — the couple moved back to Moore County with a plan for income that’s as flexible as their schedules need to be. The truck has been running for less than a month, so a full menu and website are still in the works, but we’ve already established our favorites.
The I Pita the Fool:
This gyro, on a pita that would be good by itself, is filled with pork and gyro meat, tomato, red onions, spicy feta and Tzatziki sauces. You guys know we love our fries, and these were pretty close to perfect BEFORE they crumbled feta cheese on them.
The Build-Your-Own Combo:
The combos come with several choices. We ordered a pita with chicken and Tzatziki sauce, and a side of stuffed grape leaves and fava beans. The beans were OK, but the grape leaves — again, served with feta cheese — were just right.
