This abandoned bank, at 600 South West Broad St. downtown Southern Pines, could be reimagined into a café and grocery.
The former home of Wells Fargo has been vacant for some time. Rather than tear it down, developer Andy Bleggi plans to keep the bones of the building much the same. Since the town of Southern Pines does not allow drive-thrus in the downtown district, Bleggi plans to fill in the existing drive-thru lanes, and install a pickup window for to-go meals.
Sketches presented during the town of Southern Pines’ latest meeting outline space for a market, coffee bar, kitchen, dining room, and an outdoor patio with retractable awnings. The indoor dining room would seat 24.
A tenant for the building has yet to be named. The project will again come before the town council at its next agenda meeting, Aug. 3.
